Synchro Scoop - Feb 11

From Coach Selina

LEARNINGS FROM JANUARY ROUTINE MEET & WATERLOO INVITATIONAL MEET

  1. All athletes must arrive when the coaches have asked them to be at the pool - without proper warmup and landdrill - athletes were less successful

  2. Gel  - please arrive with a MINIMUM of 3 layers of gel - hair needs to be up in a tight, braided bun

  3. Bring SNACKS - high protein - NOT candy - and water

  4. Ensure your athlete has been fed before arriving to the start of their competition - McDonalds food does not constitute the breakfast of champions

  5. Ensure your athlete has ONLY the equipment needed - yoga mat for sure and practice suit/performance suit/club cap/towels - we had many people bringing their big hockey bags

  6. Athletes are required to ensure they inform the coach when they are leaving - PARENTS: please do NOT schedule other family commitments on the day your athlete competes - the performance schedule is an “idea” - this causes athletes stress if they will not be ready to leave when the parent has indicated at drop off

  7. PARENTS - please do not try to get the attention of your child while they are with the coaches - once the athlete is handed over to coaching staff they are in “competition mode”. If you need to drop of food or other stuff, please message the coach and we will get it from the entrance to the pool

  8. Locker room and pool access - the busier the competition the less room there is in the locker room - please ensure your athlete arrives in their spacing suit/black suit and wear their uniform to the competition pool - you do not need to help them carry stuff or change - being on deck without being a coach or an event volunteer/judge is a violation of OAS rules and can come with a hefty fine

  9. Please remind your athletes to check they have ALL their items before leaving the competition venue - we have had some lost suits etc in the past 2 competitions

  10. Loud cheering and YORK signs in the stands and on the deck have been an inspiration to all participants. Parents keep up the good work with the cheering - just remember - no cheering during figures😁
